A Nigerian based abroad in the UK narrated what a friend that was about getting married that he wants to give 50,000 naira to buy a wedding gift for himself said to him when he asked him yo forward his account numbers to him.
The writer that goes by the name Olamide Obe @olajideobe on X his friend’s response changed a lot about how people based at home in Nigeria see the people living outside Nigeria in the face of the current position that the Dollars and Naira are currently at.
The friend’s reply when he discovered he was giving him 50,000 was to ask him why he is giving him on 25 pounds.
The audacity keeps getting worse.
A certain friend is getting married soon. So I asked him to give me his bank details so I can send him ₦50,000 to get a wedding gift since I will unfortunately not be able to attend his wedding.
While we were still talking, baba said so na £25 you go give me for wedding gift. I was confused and perplexed at the same time. He has already converted the 50k to GBP and felt he deserves more than the pound equivalent. I don’t have energy for back and forth, I just told him make he no vex. I’m surely not sending him any dime again, I’ll put my 50k to a more noble cause.
Sometimes, some people are always too quick to forget that no one owes them anything in reality; and one choosing to give is purely out of love and kindness of heart.

@Yincar-True. Same reason why some people don’t use their Naija number anymore, and you’d hardly find them on social media.
But me I will not hide because of anybody. I still use my Naija number for WhatsApp. But I will only do what I can. No pressure
@ritexlym- Haven’t hear from a school mate since 2017 he managed to get my number from a frnd that offered to picked me from MMA the last time i came to Nigeria texted me like a random guy no paddy paddy troll no pleasantries
